The Aria plan is located on the south side of Goes town in the area of Zuid-Beveland in the province of Zeeland. Isis Architectuur is invited to the architectural design of two types of freestanding and connected dwellings. Forty of these homes will be included in the urban development plan that consists of 350 homes in total. Seven other architectural firms, Bedaux, Feekes, Pouderoyen, Sturkenboom, Jaco D. de Visser, Visser Bouman en Wiegerinck architecten, are invited to do the same. Some are commissioned to design terraced houses too. The development of the urban plan is conducted by Habets Stedenbouw. Due to the economic crisis, from 2008 onwards, many of the architectural designs are gradually canceled. Some are replaced by easier to build and sell standards from local architects.
‘Het Langhuis’
Homes that are extended at will and need are typical for the village church rings of Zeeland. It is a sequence of interior and exterior spaces that ends in the field. This custom is honored in the design of Het Langhuis. Without being literal in coping with tradition, the architectural expression is derived from the black tarred barns with the white framed openings, also typical of the area of Zuid-Beveland.
‘Dag- en Nachtwoning’
A semi-detached house that may also act as a detached house. As to enliven the streets, by a 90 or 180 degrees twist or mirror, the plan is connected to a neighboring house in various ways. Referring again to the Zeeland extraordinarily spacious barn, this house features an extra shelter underneath a glass roof. The four seasons greenhouse-like space allows to expand the living area as desired.
