House Dahlia - Summary
How to transform a swinery into a sheltered house?
Rather grow old on the site where all memories of a family life in agricultural business are, than stay in a nursing home. A good reason for this client to launch a transformation project in the outskirts of the province of Noord Brabant.
Our proposal is highly site specific, but triggers solutions to the innumerous deserted pigsties in the province of Noord Brabant. The idea is to revitalize this ailing agricultural area. Therefor we test the existing agricultural buildings on different programs. The barn appears to offer unprecedented opportunities for a sustainable and comfortable living environment with plenty of natural light.
The rural farms revive through the enjoyment of typical farmers flowers. The Dahlia is one of them.
The client took the preliminary design as a starting point for the construction.
