Kasco - Summary

A bike ride along the dikes near Nijmegen made me realize that this area is undergoing enormous changes. In the Vinex Waalsprong area, for example, 11,000 homes and amenities are being built in a former horticultural area. This will permanently change the image, structure, culture, and ecology of the area. The glass greenhouse landscape on the scale it currently exists will, so to speak, disappear permanently from the map. This raises questions about coherence and programmatic issues.

The developed building concept is, of course, not limited to the Nijmegen location but can take shape in many different locations. In this publication you will find a rough outline of the concept, the principles and a number of project examples.

This prompted me to initiate research into the implementation of the greenhouse construction system in a building concept that, in addition to enhancing the visual value of the cultural-historical landscape, contributes to flexible and contemporary residential, work, and recreational programs; contributes to responsible and cost-effective energy management in buildings; makes optimal use of the many architectural visual elements of the greenhouse and glass as a material; and, in addition, brings the technical and economic advantages offered by the use of the industrialized greenhouse construction system closer.
